Lake Havasu City, AZ., Dec. 19 -- As more men stay home and share in the kitchen chores companies have rushed to help decorate the kitchens accordingly with more hot rod styles. One such company, Flameka.com, only produces flame decals for Kitchen Aid mixers. “We have both men and women buying them as gifts for their spouses,” reports Ross Bolton, company President. With over 1,000,000 KitchenAid stand mixers sold a year in a huge variety of colors, one would wonder why custom flames are necessary. “There is a certain amount of ownership pride that comes with the Kitchenaid line of mixers,” states Maura Dailey, an Amazon.com reviewer. “Perhaps this is just one more way of expressing that love.” Alton Brown, a celebrity chef on the Food Network, knows the burning desire to flame out a stand mixer. His own custom painted KitchenAid mixer makes frequent appearances on his show “Good Eats”. “It’s insane how much interest has been generated by that mixer,” says Brown. He says he has received hundreds of inquires from fans asking where they can get one. The hot rod style is spreading to other appliances in the kitchen also. Big Chill, makers of 1950s-style refrigerators, has a new line of custom painted refrigerators and plans other styles to meet demand. Focusing again on the classic hot rod styles, the new line is called the Beach Cruiser Series and will feature two tone paint. The megamarts are also cashing in on the hot rod decorating trend. Sam's Club now offers a stool in the shape of a motorcycle seat. Amazon.com is selling grilling tools with flames on them by Flameworks. Wal-Mart offers small airbrush kits for those brave enough to paint flames themselves. Since many of these decorating styles originate from the 1950’s, expect them to last longer than other fads.
